Joe Romero Jr. is the only candidate in this race born and raised in Woodland. He is a small-business owner in the restaurant and catering industry as well as being a hospitality manager at the Cache Creek Casino Resort. Joe served 8 years as a two-term Commissioner for the Woodland Parks and Recreation Commission where he served as the Chair in his second term. He was the Chair of the Facilities Committee that named the Rick Gonzalez Sr. Park and Springlake Park. He also proudly served as Baseball Liaison for the entire city and served as a member of the Urban Forestry Committee.
As his first act in office Joe will make sure the City of Woodland completes all unfinished new parks. Joe will help bring more jobs to the City by pushing for a new Fire Station in Springlake, ensuring community safety with faster response times from first responders. Most exciting for Joe is the prospect of creating a new public amenity in the old County Courthouse which serves as a rental office building currently.
Previously Joe was the Lead Organizer for PG&E’s Step Up & Power Down initiative in Woodland. There, Joe led community outreach efforts for PG&E in Woodland, building lasting community partnerships and helping residents reduce Woodland’s energy usage. Eventually helping reduce residents power bills for 5%. Before working for PG&E’s Step Up & Power Down Joe worked for State Senator Lois Wolk as her Yolo County Representative in the City of Woodland.
Joe earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Government – International Relations with a minor in Peace & Conflict Resolution from California State University, Sacramento. During his time there he founded Peace & Conflict International. He is a homeowner in the 5th District with his amazing fiancé. His wedding was scheduled this year for September 13th but due to Covid-19 it has been postponed.
